She slammed her bowl down and left the room, too pissed to care that nearly fifteen people, including Sue, stared at her, wondering what had finally set her off.

“Do you think that little scene helped anything?” Sue let herself into Tulley’s room.

“Yeah, as a matter of fact. It helped me feel better. How about if I screw the rest of you and just think about me once in a while?”

“Let’s get out of here. Let’s get away from the house and just go somewhere to talk.”

“Talk? What is there to say?” Tulley asked.

Sue looked around nervously. “We have plenty to say. We just can’t say anything here. Get dressed and meet me at my car in ten minutes.”

Tulley rolled over and tried to give serious thought to not going with Sue. She felt like a worthless puppy that would come whenever Sue snapped her fingers. She wished she understood her emotions.

Being with Sue made her happier than she’d ever been. And being with Sue inflicted an ungodly amount of pain and frustration. She knew in her heart of hearts she should stay where she was and forget about Sue.

But there was no way she was going to say no to Sue and she knew it. She slipped into a pair of cotton shorts and pulled a Fenton State T-shirt over her wifebeater. A few of her sisters were in the bathroom when she got there to brush her teeth, but they just gave her a strange look and moved away. Tulley was fine with that. When she was through, she hurried downstairs and out the back door without a word to anyone. Certain no one noticed her, she let herself in Sue’s car and waited.

Her heart was pounding as scenario after scenario played through her head. She imagined climbing into the tiny backseat with Sue and touching her all over, kissing her the way they kissed the night before. She felt like she was going to have a heart attack when the driver’s door opened.
